Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the BJP government over several issues, including the promise of free bus travel for women during Raksha Bandhan, concerns related to the Jat community, and the murder of young singer Ankit Baliyan.
The remarks came during a Samajwadi Party membership programme in Lucknow, where several people joined the party. Akhilesh Yadav welcomed the new members and urged them to spread the party’s ideology and policies among people across villages and cities.
Akhilesh Yadav criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over the announcement of free bus travel for women on Raksha Bandhan. He alleged that the BJP government made promises but failed to deliver on them.

Taking a dig at the ruling party, he said that while the government talked about providing free bus services, the reality was that buses themselves were being removed.
“Those who say ‘Pran jaye par vachan na jaye’ have also been deceived by BJP leaders. How can such leaders be expected to keep their promises?” Akhilesh said.
The SP chief also raised issues related to the Jat community and questioned whether the Chief Minister would listen to their concerns.

He alleged that BJP leaders who claim to represent the Jat community have remained silent on issues affecting the community. Akhilesh said that people from the community are seeking answers from leaders who supported the BJP.
“BJP is only loyal to votes, not to any particular community,” he alleged.
Akhilesh Yadav also brought up the murder of young singer Ankit Baliyan and questioned the government’s response.
He asked whether Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would listen to the pain of Ankit Baliyan’s grieving father and address the family’s concerns.
The SP leader said the government should take the complaints and suffering of victims’ families seriously.
During the Lucknow event, several people formally joined the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh Yadav welcomed them into the organisation and asked them to take the party’s message and policies to the public.
The SP chief said the party workers should connect with people at the grassroots level and strengthen the organisation ahead of future political challenges.
