Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has made a major announcement regarding the Vishwakarma community, saying that if his party forms the government in Uttar Pradesh in the future, Vishwakarma Jayanti will again be declared a public holiday.
During a press conference in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav also promised that a temple dedicated to Lord Vishwakarma would be constructed at the Lucknow Riverfront if the SP comes to power.
He said Lord Vishwakarma is worshipped by artisans, craftsmen and people associated with construction and traditional skills across the country. Akhilesh Yadav said his party would prepare special schemes and make separate budgetary provisions for the development of the Vishwakarma community.
Akhilesh Yadav said the SP government would focus on supporting small artisans and craftsmen by helping them access markets, increase production and receive financial assistance.
He said traditional skills and occupations need government support so that people involved in these sectors can improve their economic condition.
The SP chief also spoke about employment opportunities and claimed that a Samajwadi Party government would work towards creating more jobs and opening new avenues for youth.
During the press conference, Akhilesh Yadav also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and levelled allegations of corruption.
He said, “There has been so much loot and corruption under the BJP government that no other government has seen this level of corruption.”
Akhilesh Yadav further alleged that a system operates between Lucknow and Delhi where efforts are made to benefit selected people. These were allegations made by the SP chief against the BJP government.
Akhilesh Yadav said his party’s policies would focus on youth, artisans and different sections of society.
He claimed that if the SP forms the government, efforts would be made to increase employment opportunities and provide better support to young people looking for jobs.
With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2027 approaching, political parties have started focusing on different social groups and community issues.
Akhilesh Yadav’s announcements regarding the Vishwakarma community are being viewed as part of the wider political outreach ahead of the upcoming election.
However, no party has officially announced its candidates for the 2027 Assembly polls yet. The impact of such announcements will become clearer as election preparations progress.
