
Allahabad HC orders case against Rahul Gandhi
Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday stated that allegations regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi holding dual citizenship warrant thorough examination. The court directed the police to register a FIR against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The Lucknow Bench instructed the Uttar Pradesh government to either conduct its own inquiry into the matter or transfer the investigation to a central agency for a more detailed probe.
The court was hearing a petition filed by S Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker, who had challenged a January 28 decision of a special MP/MLA court in Lucknow. That court had declined his request to order an FIR against Gandhi.
In its earlier ruling, the special court had said it lacked jurisdiction to rule on matters related to citizenship, leading to the dismissal of the plea.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the claims, the High Court emphasized the need for proper verification and instructed the relevant authorities to proceed in accordance with the law.
