Lucknow: In the Ramgopal murder case in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, the convicts have been sentenced. The main accused, Sarfaraz, has been sentenced to death by hanging. Eight other convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Another convict, Saif Ali, has been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment.
A fine of one lakh rupees has also been imposed on each of them. The incident took place on October 13, 2024, when Ramgopal was murdered during the Durga idol immersion ceremony.
Earlier on Wednesday, the court had convicted 10 accused, including the main accused Sarfaraz alias Rinku, his father Abdul Hamid, and two brothers Faheem and Talib alias Sablu.
They were produced in court on Thursday afternoon. Strict security arrangements were in place during this time. The court premises were abuzz with activity since morning regarding the case.

It has been almost 14 months since the Ramgopal murder. This is the same incident that plunged the entire district into violence on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) was deployed, and the Rapid Action Force was brought in.
The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police themselves were present. Even then, the situation did not come under control. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intervened and entrusted the responsibility to UP ATS Chief Amitabh Yash, after which the situation gradually began to normalize.
Ramgopal's mother, Munni Devi, breaks down whenever October 13th is mentioned. She doesn't say anything... tears well up in her eyes. Amidst sobs, she keeps taking her son's name. His wife, Roli Mishra's eyes have become weary waiting for justice.
Ramgopal's father, Kailash Nath Mishra, has been unwell since his son's murder. The father is currently admitted to the medical college. He is having difficulty breathing. His eldest son, Harmilan Mishra, is taking care of him. After Ramgopal's murder, Harmilan is the sole support of the family.
These police officers were suspended; a departmental inquiry is underway.
Additional Superintendent of Police DP Tiwari said that on the second day after the incident, Hardi SHO Suresh Kumar Verma and Mahsi चौकी in-charge Shiv Kumar Saroj were suspended.
Three days later, action was taken against CO Rupendra Gaur for negligence in security arrangements. The departmental inquiry in the case is now in its final stages. Action may be taken against all of them soon on charges of inaction and negligence.
