A bomb threat email sent to a district judge triggered panic and a massive security response in Varanasi, forcing evacuation of the court complex and suspension of hearings. Police, bomb disposal teams, and cyber experts launched intensive searches while tracing the sender’s digital trail.
Security Tightened After District Judge Receives Bomb Threat Mail
Varanasi: Panic gripped Varanasi when a threat to bomb the court premises was received on the District Judge's official email. The administration and security agencies were immediately alerted by the threat message, which arrived at around 1:30 a.m. An emergency meeting of bar officials was called, and security was increased throughout the premises.
Upon receiving the threat, police and a bomb squad arrived at the court premises. A thorough search was conducted in the presence of DCP Varuna and local police officials. Special equipment was used to check for suspicious objects, while lawyers also began checking their chambers. As a precaution, several case hearings were postponed and people were requested to vacate the premises.
The Cyber Cell has been activated to determine the authenticity and source of the threatening email. The technical team is working to trace the IP address of the email and the location of the sender. Officials say that while no suspicious object has been confirmed at this time, all necessary security measures are being taken. Vigilance will be maintained until the investigation is complete.
Central Bar officials stated that the District Judge called them to his chambers and informed them of the threat. The message allegedly mentioned a terrorist organization and threatened to target the court. In light of this, the safety of lawyers and staff has become a top priority. The Bar Association has also demanded that the administration strengthen permanent security arrangements.
The administration has appealed to both citizens and lawyers to disregard rumors and cooperate with the investigation. Officials say the situation is under control and full preparations have been made to deal with any emergency. A serious investigation is currently underway, and strict action is being promised against the culprits.
