Kanpur: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Branch Manager and a Bank Mitra of Bank of Baroda in connection with a bribery case in Kanpur Dehat.

The arrests were made after the CBI conducted a trap operation and allegedly caught the accused accepting a bribe linked to subsidy-related documentation.

Bribe Demand Over Subsidy Documents

According to the CBI, the case was registered on June 3 based on a complaint filed by a man who had obtained a loan of Rs 10 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in December 2023.

The complainant had taken the loan to establish a solar flour mill. After completing two years, he reportedly approached the bank branch to obtain documents necessary for claiming interest subsidy benefits under the Pt. Deendayal Gramodyog Rojgar Yojana.

The complainant alleged that the Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda’s Nonari Bujurg branch demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 through a Bank Mitra for issuing the required documents. The accused also allegedly threatened that the paperwork would not be processed if the bribe was not paid.

CBI Trap Operation

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on June 4. During the operation, the agency allegedly caught the accused Bank Mitra red-handed while accepting Rs 15,000 on behalf of the Branch Manager.
