CBI raids 14 locations in UP
Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday conducted searches at 14 locations across Uttar Pradesh in connection with the alleged embezzlement of nearly ₹4 crore in government funds linked to the Basic Education Department in Amethi district.
The searches were carried out in Lucknow, Ayodhya, Kushinagar, Pratapgarh and Amethi as part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected diversion of public funds from the government treasury to multiple bank accounts.
According to the CBI, the case was registered on June 8, 2026, following directions issued by the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow Bench on May 25. The agency took over the investigation from the Gauriganj Police Station in Amethi, where an FIR had earlier been lodged on March 21, 2025, based on a complaint filed by the Finance and Accounts Officer of the Basic Education Department.
The accused include a former Junior Accounts Clerk of the Basic Education Department in Gauriganj, a Block Quality Coordinator, a Block MIS Coordinator, a headmaster and an assistant teacher. The CBI alleges that the accused entered into a criminal conspiracy and illegally siphoned off government funds worth approximately Rs 4 crore by diverting money from the treasury to various bank accounts.
During the raids, investigators seized documents related to the alleged investment and utilisation of the embezzled funds, along with digital devices and other materials considered crucial to the probe.
The agency said the investigation is continuing and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the searches.
