Lucknow: As Uttar Pradesh gears up for the crucial 2027 Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav appears to be placing greater focus on his wife and Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav, who has emerged as one of the party’s most prominent faces.
Once kept away from electoral politics to counter allegations of dynastic politics, Dimple Yadav has now transformed into a key campaigner for the Samajwadi Party, with the party hoping she can help expand its appeal among women voters in the state.
Akhilesh Yadav had earlier promised that Dimple would not contest elections amid criticism over family politics. However, years later, Dimple has contested multiple Lok Sabha elections and won twice from Mainpuri.
Her growing visibility has positioned her as a potential political asset for the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2027 UP polls.
Dimple Yadav has increasingly taken centre stage in the party’s campaigns against the BJP.

While Akhilesh remained focused on parliamentary politics, Dimple’s street-level presence helped strengthen her position within the party.
Women voters have been a major electoral strength for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party has struggled to overcome perceptions related to women’s safety during previous governments.
With Dimple as a prominent campaign face, the SP appears to be attempting to challenge the BJP’s women-centric politics and create a stronger connection with female voters.
Dimple Yadav’s electoral victories from the family stronghold of Mainpuri have strengthened her credibility within the party.
