New Delhi: A major controversy has erupted after Ashutosh Brahmachari filed a sexual harassment complaint against Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.
While the FIR under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) brought the Shankaracharya into the spotlight, attention has now shifted to Ashutosh himself due to serious allegations about his past.
After the complaint was filed, Swami Avimukteshwaranand described Ashutosh as a “history-sheeter,” alleging that multiple criminal cases - including cow slaughter, rape, fraud, and land grabbing - have been registered against him. Ashutosh has denied all allegations, maintaining that he is being targeted for exposing wrongdoing.
Police records reportedly show that a history sheet in Ashutosh’s name is registered at Kandhla police station in Shamli district. Cases have allegedly been filed against him in districts such as Shamli, Gonda, Muzaffarnagar, and Lucknow under various sections of law.
In one earlier case, Ashutosh was arrested following a sting operation led by SP Naveneet Rana in connection with allegations related to the beef trade. He was booked under Sections 3/5 of the Cow Slaughter Act and Sections 8, 9, and 10 of the Anti-Corruption Act.
Meanwhile, amid allegations of sexual harassment involving two individuals, including a minor, Swami Avimukteshwaranand has publicly stated that he will not resist arrest. He remarked that there are “three courts”- the court of public opinion, his own conscience, and the Supreme Court - and claimed he has received a clean chit from all three.
The legal battle continues as both sides trade serious allegations, making the case one of the most discussed controversies in recent times.
