Lucknow: Rs 1 lakh rewarded shooter Sanjeev killed in encounter

Police said Sanjeev had been on the run since the murder of builder Sandeep Singh, who was killed in the PGI police station area of Lucknow on May 27, 2026. Following the incident, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, Lucknow Police shot dead wanted criminal Sanjay, alias Sanjeev, during an encounter on Indira Canal Road. Sanjeev, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh, was allegedly the prime shooter in the murder case of builder Sandeep Singh.

According to police, a checking operation was underway to track wanted criminals when the team came across Sanjeev. On being surrounded, he allegedly opened fire at the police personnel. In retaliatory firing, he sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said Sanjeev had been on the run since the murder of builder Sandeep Singh, who was killed in the PGI police station area of Lucknow on May 27, 2026. Following the incident, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

Investigators claim that Sanjeev was involved in several serious criminal cases, including murder and extortion, across districts such as Ambedkarnagar, Basti and Ayodhya. Police records also suggest that he had links with members of the notorious Khan Mubarak gang.

Officials said evidence is being collected from the encounter site and Sanjeev’s wider criminal network is now under investigation. Police are also probing whether his death could help uncover more details in the builder Sandeep Singh murder case.

Authorities said action against wanted criminals will continue and more arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
