Maharajganj: A police operation in Maharajganj district has sparked debate after an alleged gambling racket operator was reportedly released following his arrest. The raid was carried out on Thursday in the Kotwali police station area.
According to Dynamite News correspondent, the police carried out a raid around 3:10 pm at the accused’s shop and house located near Shyam Temple. The action was aimed at apprehending a person believed to be the kingpin of a gambling racket that had allegedly been active in the district for a long time.
Eyewitnesses said that as soon as the police arrived, family members of the accused began protesting. It is alleged that the accused’s father misbehaved with the police and even tried to threaten them. Despite the resistance, the police continued the operation and reportedly chased down and detained the alleged kingpin.
Local residents claimed that the accused was handled strictly during the arrest and was taken away on a motorcycle. The entire episode drew significant attention and became a major talking point in the area.

However, the controversy deepened when reports surfaced that the alleged gambling operator was later released under mysterious circumstances. According to sources, there has been speculation about an unknown phone call and possible large-scale monetary dealings, although no official confirmation has been made.
Residents also alleged that the accused’s brother and two associates were seen moving inside the Kotwali police station after the arrest, further fuelling suspicion.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, locals brought the issue to the attention of Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena and demanded a fair and impartial investigation.
