Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh: A massive fire broke out at two lehenga and chunni showrooms near Christian Tiraha in Mainpuri, triggering panic and raising fears of heavy financial losses for local traders. The blaze, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, spread rapidly from the ground floor to warehouses on the first and second floors, putting a large quantity of clothing stock at risk.
Three fire brigade vehicles were deployed to control the flames, while a JCB was brought in to break open the shop shutters after firefighters faced difficulties accessing the premises.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred at around 11:45 am when a loud explosion-like sound was heard from a lehenga and chunni showroom near Christian Tiraha. Flames reportedly began pouring out of the shop shortly afterwards.
The fire intensified within minutes and spread to neighbouring showrooms in the market building. The complex houses a coin collection business, bridal wear outlets and other clothing stores, raising concerns about the potential damage to nearby commercial establishments.
The fire reportedly extended beyond the ground-floor showroom, engulfing storage areas on the first and second floors as well. With clothing stock stored across several levels, traders fear that a substantial quantity of merchandise may have been destroyed.
The exact extent of the damage and the total value of the goods affected are yet to be established. The suspected short circuit is also yet to be officially confirmed as the cause of the fire.
Three fire brigade vehicles were engaged in firefighting operations as emergency teams attempted to bring the blaze under control. Since the shop shutters could not be opened, a JCB was deployed to break them and provide access to the interiors. The operation was aimed at helping firefighters reach the burning areas and tackle the flames more effectively.
The incident has raised concerns among traders over the safety of commercial buildings and the risk of electrical faults triggering major fires. With the flames reportedly spreading across multiple floors and storage areas, the final assessment of losses will depend on the extent of the damage once firefighting operations are completed.
Further details regarding the cause of the fire, the extent of property damage and any injuries were not available in the initial report.
