Kanpur: Big and worrying news has come out from Kanpur, UP. There was a sudden massive explosion on Meston Road late Wednesday evening, in which about 8 people were injured. According to the police, the explosion took place in a scooter parked on the roadside.
The explosion was so strong that the glasses of nearby shops were broken and many people got scared. This area is known for the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers around Diwali.
In the preliminary investigation, the forensic team has found traces of explosive materials like firecrackers from the site of the blast. However, it is not yet clear whether the blast was caused by firecrackers kept in the scooter or by some other explosive material.
Police and the forensic team are investigating the matter in depth. STF and ATS teams have also been deployed to assist in the investigation.
After the blast the area was filled with smoke. At the time of the blast, Abdul's toy shop was there, which was slightly affected. Abdul said that after the blast he ran away from there due to fear.
Of the eight people injured in the blast, the condition of four is said to be critical. One of these is a person named Ashwini Kumar, who has been referred to Lucknow. The owner of the second scooty is a resident of Govindnagar, who has not been contacted yet. A garbage collector woman was also injured.
Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghuveer Lal has said that an investigation is being done at every point and any kind of rumors should not be paid attention to. He said that the explosion could also have been caused by firecrackers, but all possibilities are being investigated. Police have evacuated the entire area, and traffic has been diverted to facilitate investigation.
According to information received from sources, National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials are in touch with UP ATS, and soon a team will be sent from Lucknow to the Kanpur blast site for investigation. This will make the investigation into this matter even more comprehensive.
After the blast, the market has been evacuated, and shopkeepers have been asked to remain alert. Many shops have been damaged due to the intensity of the explosion. The police are continuously investigating and are trying to solve this case soon. At present, the injured are undergoing treatment, and everyone's condition remains stable.
