Noida: Amid ongoing workers' protests in Noida over long-pending demands for salary revision, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a high-level committee on Monday to address the escalating industrial unrest in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

The decision follows widespread protests by industrial workers demanding a long-pending wage revision in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

Officials said the move aims to ensure industrial harmony, protect workers’ interests and restore normalcy after demonstrations turned disruptive in several parts of the city.

Panel to Engage Stakeholders

According to the state Labour Department, the newly formed committee has been mandated to hold discussions with all stakeholders, including labour unions and industry representatives, to find a balanced resolution.

The panel will be chaired by the Industrial Development Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh. It includes the Additional Chief Secretary (MSME) and the Principal Secretary (Labour and Employment) as members, along with a nominated officer serving as Member Secretary. Five representatives from labour unions and three from industrial associations have also been included to ensure broader participation.

Authorities confirmed that the committee has already reached Gautam Buddha Nagar and will examine the issues on priority before submitting its recommendations to the government.

Protests Turn Violent in Noida

The development comes after large-scale protests erupted across Noida, particularly in Phase 2, Sector 60 and Sector 84, where workers from multiple industrial units gathered to press for higher wages.

What began as a peaceful demonstration escalated into violence, with incidents of stone-pelting, vandalism and arson reported. Several vehicles were damaged, and at least one was set on fire during clashes.

Protests were also reported near a unit linked to the Motherson Group, highlighting the spread of unrest across industrial clusters.

Traffic Disruptions Hit Commuters

The agitation significantly impacted daily life, as protesters blocked National Highway 9, leading to severe traffic congestion. Thousands of commuters travelling between Delhi and Noida were left stranded during peak hours.

Government Seeks Quick Resolution

Officials said the formation of the committee reflects the government’s intent to address workers’ grievances through dialogue while maintaining law and order.

With tensions still simmering, the administration is hoping that swift intervention and structured negotiations will help defuse the situation and prevent further escalation in one of Uttar Pradesh’s key industrial hubs.
