Pratapgarh: An unfortunate accident occurred in the Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh early Thursday morning due to the collapse of an almost 100-year-old building owing to heavy rain, resulting in the death of six people belonging to one family and injury to one person.

The accident occurred in the Mahuli area which comes under the Kotwali Police Station jurisdiction, where seven members of one family were sleeping in one room when the old building collapsed over them.

Operation Ensures Survival of One Person

Upon getting the information at around 2 am, police, fire brigades, and rescue officials went to the site and carried out a huge operation to remove the rubble.

All the victims were extracted from under the rubble. While one member of the family, Aman Srivastava, survived and was immediately rushed to the district hospital for treatment, six other persons died in the incident.

They were a couple along with their son, daughter-in-law, and two children.

“I Saw My Family Entrapped Under Rubble,” Says Victim

While recounting his terrible experience, victim Aman Srivastava revealed that he had found himself entangled under the debris of the building that had fallen on him.

However, in spite of this terrible experience, he had somehow escaped and made efforts to save his family members from the entrapment; failing in which, he had raised an alarm. The neighbours and relatives arrived at the spot and called for the rescue team.

The neighbour revealed that the upper part of the house had collapsed onto the lower part when the family members were asleep.

Investigation Launched by the Police Force

Circle Officer Ashutosh Mishra stated that efforts have been initiated following the information received regarding the collapse.

"The police and fire department came to the spot, cleared the rubble and took all the people who were affected to the hospital," he added.

Rescue operations have been completed, and now, investigation is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the collapse. This has brought into question the safety of old buildings in the monsoon season.
