Ayodhya: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has declined to provide detailed financial information sought by the local administration after a complaint was forwarded from the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to officials, BJP leader Rajneesh Singh had written to the PMO on June 9, seeking full disclosure of the Trust’s financial records. The complaint demanded details of income and expenditure since the formation of the Trust, along with information on donations received, bank account operations, land purchases and sales, and overall assets.

After the PMO forwarded the matter to the district administration, officials asked the Trust to provide the relevant details. However, the Trust reportedly refused to share the records at this stage.

Trust Cites SIT Investigation

In its response, the Trust said a Special Investigation Team is already conducting a formal probe and collecting all necessary documents and records. The Trust maintained that sharing additional information while the investigation is underway would not be appropriate.

The complaint had also sought details of funds collected under the ‘Samarpan Nidhi’ campaign. It further asked for records of donations received in the form of gold, silver and jewellery, along with bank statements, financial transactions and audit reports.

SIT Flags Lapses In Donation Handling

The Special Investigation Team, constituted on June 13, has submitted its preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government. Sources said the report has raised concerns over alleged procedural lapses in the counting and monitoring of donations.

The SIT is also learnt to have examined the process through which staff members involved in counting donations were selected. Investigators have looked into possible links between such staff and office-bearers associated with temple administration.

At this stage, the SIT has not given a clean chit to any individual connected with the matter, sources said.

Probe Team Seeks More Time

Given the scale and sensitivity of the case, the SIT has reportedly sought more time to complete its inquiry. It has also requested additional personnel for a deeper investigation into donation management, financial oversight and internal administrative systems.

The matter has triggered fresh demands for transparency in the handling of donations made by devotees to the Ram Temple.
