Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s changing economic landscape and development journey over the last decade became the focus of discussion at the UP Dialogue event held in Lucknow on Sunday. Experts highlighted major shifts in the state’s economy, infrastructure, youth opportunities and welfare programmes while discussing the road ahead for Uttar Pradesh.
Organised by Friends of UP at Essence Banquet in Hazratganj, the event brought together more than 100 young volunteers, economists, policy observers and political analysts. The theme of the programme, Uttar Pradesh’s decade, focused on how the state has evolved across different sectors and what challenges remain for future growth.
The state’s economic transformation was one of the biggest talking points during the event. Economics experts discussed the changing financial position of Uttar Pradesh and highlighted growth trends in areas such as GDP, exports, infrastructure and investment.
Professor M.K. Agrawal explained the changing economic indicators of Uttar Pradesh and highlighted the growth momentum witnessed in recent years. The discussion also focused on increasing exports from the state and improvements in social indicators.
Experts said that economic expansion combined with infrastructure development has played an important role in changing the perception of Uttar Pradesh as an emerging growth centre.
Infrastructure development emerged as another major theme during the UP Dialogue. Experts discussed the rapid expansion of expressways in Uttar Pradesh and how improved connectivity has transformed transportation, logistics and investment opportunities across regions.
The discussion highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant increase in high-speed road connectivity compared to previous years. The expanding expressway network has become a key factor in attracting industries, improving trade movement and connecting smaller cities with major economic hubs.
Political analyst Shashank Shekhar Singh discussed the financial transformation of the state and highlighted the rise in per capita income. According to the figures presented during the discussion, Uttar Pradesh’s per capita income, which was around Rs 52,000 in 2017, has increased to nearly Rs 1.20 lakh in 2026.
The discussion also highlighted the state’s revenue position and financial management, with experts linking economic growth to improved government capacity and development spending.

The role of young people in Uttar Pradesh’s future remained a key focus area during the programme. Participants raised questions related to employment, competitive examinations, skill development and government initiatives aimed at supporting youth.
Experts discussed the Abhyudaya Yojana, under which free coaching facilities are provided to students preparing for competitive examinations. The initiative was highlighted as an effort to expand educational opportunities for aspirants across the state.
The programme also focused on development efforts aimed at tribal communities and underprivileged sections. Speakers discussed initiatives related to land ownership rights, housing facilities, electricity access and basic amenities.
The discussion highlighted that residents of 65 villages have received land ownership rights, which was presented as a step towards strengthening social and economic security among communities.
The UP Dialogue also provided a platform for young volunteers to discuss issues related to governance, development and opportunities. Participants interacted with experts on topics including economic growth, infrastructure expansion, education policies and inclusive development. Speakers emphasised that youth participation and public awareness will remain crucial in shaping Uttar Pradesh’s future growth story.
The discussion concluded with a focus on the future roadmap of Uttar Pradesh. Experts highlighted that continued economic growth, better infrastructure, education reforms, investment opportunities and employment generation will determine the next phase of the state’s development journey.
The UP Dialogue reflected the growing conversation around Uttar Pradesh’s transformation and the opportunities ahead as the state continues to expand its role in India’s economic landscape.
