Lucknow: A shocking case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh where a woman travelling from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh with her two children was allegedly deceived by two individuals she met at Lucknow Railway Station on May 13. According to police, the suspects gained her trust during the journey and later diverted her at Raebareli Railway Station, where they separated her from her nine-month-old infant under the pretext of getting food from a roadside eatery.

Complaint leads to swift police action

Following the complaint, Raebareli Police registered Crime No. 109/2026 under Section 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Multiple police teams were immediately deployed. Authorities examined the crime scene, analysed CCTV footage, and used technical surveillance tools to track the suspects’ movements. Investigators traced leads toward the Moradabad-Rampur region, triggering a coordinated search operation.

Child rescued in coordinated operation

Police officials confirmed that the kidnapped infant was safely recovered after an intensive manhunt. The operation involved coordinated efforts between surveillance units and field teams who tracked the accused across multiple locations. The child was later reunited with the family.

Suspects identified in alleged racket

Investigators identified the main accused as Ramkumar Das and his wife Reshma Devi, residents of Araria in Bihar. Police believe the duo deliberately befriended the mother to execute the kidnapping. Further probe revealed a wider network allegedly involved in child trafficking activities, including brokers and facilitators.

Officials also named Sumit Kumar, allegedly acting as an intermediary, and Kiranjeet alias Sardar Aunty, who is suspected of convincing individuals to exchange children for money. Investigators believe the infant was intended to be handed over to Sanjay Kumar Saini from the Moradabad region, who was reportedly seeking a child.

Financial trail and wider investigation

A financial probe has uncovered transactions linked to the racket. Around ₹50,000 was allegedly involved, with ₹10,000 transferred to a relative of Kiranjeet and another ₹10,000 sent directly to her account. Police are now tracking the complete money trail to identify additional links in the network.

Multiple individuals under scanner

Several individuals are currently detained or under interrogation, including Ramkumar Das, Reshma Devi, Kiranjeet alias Sardar Aunty, Sumit Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Brahmpal Singh, Archana, Babita, and Harishchandra. Authorities are examining their roles in the alleged child transfer network and related activities, including the circulation of children’s photographs.
