Uttar Pradesh: Stampede-like situation in Barabanki Temple; Two dead, over 30 injured

The injured include some women and children also. All the injured have been rushed to the Community Health Centre in Haidergarh and Trivediganj in Barabanki.

Lucknow: At least two devotees have died and over 30 others wounded in a stampede-like situation today on Monday in Avasaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Barabanki, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

According to reports the accident occured due to sudden spread of electric current in the Temple premises. The injured include some women and children also. All the injured have been rushed to the Community Health Centre in Haidergarh and Trivediganj in Barabanki.

CMO Statement

Chief Medical Officer Awadhesh Prasad said, "The incident happened in the Awsaneshwar temple at around 2-2.30 am. Some people came in contact with electric wires, which caused panic. A total of 29 people were brought to the Community Health Centre in Haidergarh. One of them was referred to the district hospital. His condition is out of danger. Nine people were taken to the community health centre Trivediganj, out of which two were brought dead and the remaining seven are out of danger."

CM Yogi Adityanath

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over this accident.

Compensation Announced

CM Yogi expressed condolences to the family of the deceased regarding the accident in the temple. He has given instructions to provide financial assistance of 5 lakhs to the family of the deceased. Also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

A massive police force is deployed in the Temple premises after the accident.

Stamepede Reason

Jalabhishek started in the temple after at night. Meanwhile, suddenly electric current spread in the temple premises. Due to which there was chaos among the devotees. People started running here and there amidst screams.

According to District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi, 'there was no stampede incident in Avasaneshwar Mandev, rather this incident happened due to the electric wire falling on the tin shed after being broken by a monkey.'

The Police has registered the case and further investigation is underway.
