UP: Abdullah Azam sentenced to seven years in jail and fined in dual passport case

Rampur: Former MLA Abdullah Azam, son of SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan, has now been sentenced to another seven years by a court in two passport cases. He has also been fined Rs 50,000. Abdullah Azam appeared in court via video conferencing during the hearing.

Abdulla is already serving a seven-year sentence in a two-PAN card case.

On Friday, the Rampur court pronounced its verdict. The court convicted Abdullah Azam and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

The Case: A brief backgrounder

The case against Abdullah Azam regarding two passports was filed by city MLA Akash Saxena at the Civil Lines police station in 2019. He alleged that Abdullah Azam possessed two passports. One of passports he had used for foreign travel.

This case was there in the MP-MLA Magistrate Court. Abdullah Azam had also approached the Supreme Court to quash the case. But there he did not get any relief' after which the hearing in this case resumed.
