UP: Soil collapses in Kaushambi; 5 female buried, die

Kaushambi: Five females, including two teenagers, died after a mound of soil collapsed while digging the soil in the Kokhraj area of Kaushambi district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that some women of Tikardih village of Nagar Palika Parishad Bharwari were digging soil from the pond for cooking and plastering the house when suddenly the mound of soil collapsed.

"Sangeeta (35), Mamta (32), Kachrahi (32), Uma alias Suman (14) and Khushi (16) died on the spot in the incident," they said.

Police sources said that after hearing the screams, people from the nearby area rushed to the spot and informed and called JCB, with the help of which the soil was removed and a rescue operation was launched.

Police sources said that the bodies of the deceased women were taken out by removing the debris. "Sapna (15) and Maina (23) were seriously injured in the incident and have been admitted to the government hospital for treatment," they said.

5 women buried under the earthen mound According to the local villagers, the soil mafia has created a deep pit around the mound with JCB through illegal mining for the last several days. Rural women often go there in the greed of extracting clay from it. Even in the morning, four women were extracting soil along with Nathi Devi. During this time, the mound of soil collapsed. In which five women including Nathi Devi got buried.

Hearing the cries, the people around extended a helping hand and pulled out four women from the mound, while Nathi Devi died as soon as she was pulled out. The police have sent the injured to the nearest primary health center Muratganj for treatment. Where they are being treated.
