Kaushambi: Five females, including two teenagers, died after a mound of soil collapsed while digging the soil in the Kokhraj area of Kaushambi district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that some women of Tikardih village of Nagar Palika Parishad Bharwari were digging soil from the pond for cooking and plastering the house when suddenly the mound of soil collapsed.
"Sangeeta (35), Mamta (32), Kachrahi (32), Uma alias Suman (14) and Khushi (16) died on the spot in the incident," they said.
Police sources said that after hearing the screams, people from the nearby area rushed to the spot and informed and called JCB, with the help of which the soil was removed and a rescue operation was launched.
Police sources said that the bodies of the deceased women were taken out by removing the debris. "Sapna (15) and Maina (23) were seriously injured in the incident and have been admitted to the government hospital for treatment," they said.
