Mirzapur: Though the Government has started many schemes to realize the concept of uninterrupted and clean Ganga on the banks of river Ganga, the cremations taking place there in Chunar area of Mirzapur are raising questions on these schemes, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Allotted Ghoda Ghat Site

Despite the cremation site built at Ghoda Ghat in village Arazi Line Sultanpur, people are cremating the bodies on the banks of Ganga, due to which there is anger among the local people. Due to continuous cremation of bodies 24 hours a day near Rudranath Mahadev and Hanuman temple on this ghat, the priests and devotees of the temple are facing a lot of trouble.

Local residents say that the cremation taking place on the banks of the Ganga is not only polluting the environment, but also affecting the sanctity of religious places. Apart from this, the cremation site of Ghoda Ghat, built by the government at a cost of lakhs of rupees, has become a mere showpiece.

According to the information, this cremation site was constructed during the tenure of former village head Ajay Sonkar at a cost of about Rs 26 lakh. But the irony is that only once, that too, the body of Ajay Sonkar's mother was cremated at this site. After this, this site became completely useless.

Devotees Facing Problems

Apart from this, the failure of the local administration is also clearly visible in this matter. The administration has proved completely unsuccessful in stopping the cremation taking place on the banks of the Ganga. Villagers say that the aim of schemes like Nirmal Ganga and Aviral Ganga is to keep the Ganga clean and pollution free, but the cremations taking place on the banks of the Ganga are ruining these schemes. Due to the cremation of dead bodies near the temple at Chitreshwar Nath Ghat, devotees are also facing difficulty in offering prayers in the temple.

Local residents including Pappu Baba, Bhuvaneshwar Singh, Rajesh Prajapati, Bablu Pandey and Gulab Singh have demanded from the district administration that cremation on the banks of Ganga should be stopped immediately. They have also demanded that the use of the crematorium built at Ghodha Ghat should be made mandatory, so that the purity of Ganga and the environment can be protected.
