Ayodhya: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday addressed the controversy surrounding the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Mandir, asserting that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted at the request of the temple trust will uncover the complete truth behind the matter.
Speaking at a public gathering during his visit to Ayodhya, the Chief Minister said he first learned about the incident through media reports and immediately ordered an SIT probe after receiving a request from the Ram Mandir Trust.
"The SIT will reveal the absolute truth. However, I appeal to everyone to refrain from making irresponsible comments that may hurt the sentiments of Ram devotees," Yogi said.
The Chief Minister also launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing it of hypocrisy over the issue. Referring to past incidents involving Kar Sevaks, he said those now claiming to defend Ram devotees were the same people who had once acted against them.
"Those who ordered firing on Kar Sevaks and on people raising slogans in the name of Lord Ram are now trying to lecture others about respecting Ram devotees. Their double standards are evident to everyone," he remarked.
During his speech, Yogi also paid tribute to freedom fighter Jhalkari Bai, saying her courage played a significant role in India's struggle for independence. He highlighted several initiatives undertaken by his government in her honour, including the establishment of three PAC battalions named after Jhalkari Bai, Avantibai, and Uda Devi Pasi, with recruitment reserved exclusively for women.
The Chief Minister further criticised previous governments for neglecting development and welfare schemes. He questioned why Kamakhya Dham was not upgraded into a Nagar Panchayat earlier and why basic infrastructure and welfare benefits failed to reach the poor before 2017.
"Development requires both vision and commitment. Earlier governments were focused on appeasing a select few, whereas our government is working for every section of society," he said.
Yogi reiterated that his government remains committed to preserving religious heritage, promoting development, and ensuring transparency in matters related to public faith and institutions.
