Investigation progress revealed by DCP crime
Varanasi: In a major operation against cough syrup smuggling under the NDPS Act, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) raided a warehouse in Sujabad, under the Ramnagar police station area. During the raid, police recovered approximately 30,000 bottles of banned cough syrup, with an estimated market value of around Rs 60 lakh.

DCP Crime Sarvan T. stated that the raid was conducted on the walled premises of Manoj Kumar Yadav, who is said to be a close associate of the main accused, Shubham Jaiswal.
The DCP said that a raid had already been conducted on Azad Jaiswal's warehouse in the Rohania police station area, where cough syrup worth approximately Rs 200 crore was seized. A new connection has now emerged in this case.
The DCP said that several more names are expected to surface in this large smuggling network. The police team is examining all documents, vehicles, and the recovered stock.
Large network of organized smuggling
This operation in Varanasi is considered a significant step in the ongoing and largest investigation against the illegal drug trade. The SIT team stated that the entire network was operating in a highly organized and systematic manner. The main accused and their associates were trying to sell the cough syrup on a large scale by storing it in various warehouses.
Following the codeine cough syrup incident at UP's largest medical college, random testing of medicines has been intensified, with strict monitoring of quality.
Police said that the seizures so far have revealed several new aspects of the entire cough syrup smuggling network. Further investigation is underway to determine who all were involved and how this illegal business was spread throughout the district.

DCP Sarvan T. said that the team has started a thorough examination of all relevant documents, warehouse vehicles, and the recovered stock. Simultaneously, all individuals involved in or assisting with the smuggling operation are being identified.
Police say this action is a decisive step in controlling illegal drug trafficking in Varanasi and preventing such crimes in the future. The DCP appealed to the public to immediately inform the police if they have any information about such illegal activities so that timely action can be taken.
