Kannauj: Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district have solved the sensational murder of a woman in Chhibramau’s Banwari Nagar area within days of the crime. In a joint operation, police, SOG and surveillance teams arrested the main accused, identified as Shalu alias Shallu, after an encounter near an Indian petrol pump on Farrukhabad Road.

According to police, the accused opened fire while trying to escape arrest. In retaliatory action taken in self-defence, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was taken into custody.

Woman Killed After Refusing Money

The case came to light on May 25 when Rajiv Verma informed police that his wife, Manju Verma, had been found dead inside their home in a pool of blood. CCTV footage installed outside the house had captured a suspicious man, prompting police to launch a detailed investigation.

During interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to the crime. Police said Shalu had earlier worked as a driver for Rajiv Verma and was well aware of the family’s daily routine.

Jewellery, Weapon Recovered

The accused reportedly told investigators that he was under heavy debt and had approached Manju Verma for money. When she refused to help, he allegedly attacked and killed her before fleeing with jewellery and a motorcycle from the house.

Police recovered six rings, tops, earrings, a chain, a metal ring, the motorcycle used in the crime, and an illegal country-made pistol along with cartridges from the accused’s possession. Officials said the injured accused is currently undergoing treatment at CHC Chhibramau while further legal proceedings are underway.
