New Delhi: Two girls from Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly molested in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi, triggering sharp political reactions and raising concerns over the safety of people from the North East living in the national capital.
The incident has drawn condemnation from A. Bimol Akoijam, Congress Member of Parliament from Manipur, who termed the episode “deeply disturbing” and called for immediate and strict action against those responsible.

Reacting to the incident, Akoijam said that people from the North East are frequently targeted in different parts of the country and face discrimination and harassment. He stressed that such incidents reflect a serious lapse in ensuring safety and dignity for citizens from the region.

The MP urged authorities to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and ensure that the culprits are identified and punished in accordance with the law.
The Indian National Congress demanded that the Delhi Police take strict and prompt action in the case. Party leaders said incidents targeting individuals from the North East must not be dismissed as isolated occurrences and called for stronger preventive measures.
Congress leaders also emphasised the need for sensitisation and awareness to prevent racial profiling and harassment of North Eastern citizens residing in metropolitan cities.
Police officials have begun an investigation into the alleged molestation. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and recording statements to identify the accused.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about safety, inclusion and protection for people from the North East living outside their home states, with political leaders urging swift justice and stronger safeguards.
