Ghaziabad: The prime accused in the sensational murder of a teenager in Ghaziabad’s Khoda area was killed in a police encounter during the early hours of Sunday after allegedly opening fire on a police team, officials said.
The accused, identified as Asad, was carrying a reward of ₹50,000 and was wanted in connection with the brutal stabbing murder of teenager Surya Pratap Chauhan earlier this week. Another suspect accompanying him managed to escape during the encounter and search operations are underway to trace him.
According to Ghaziabad Police, teams from Khoda and Indirapuram police stations launched a joint operation after receiving specific intelligence inputs about Asad’s movement in the area. Police said the accused was spotted riding a motorcycle along with an associate near Vasundhara T-Point.

Officials stated that when police signalled the duo to stop, they allegedly attempted to flee towards an open ground in Vasundhara Sector-1. During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire at the police team.
Police claimed the accused continued firing even after their motorcycle skidded and fell due to high speed. The police team retaliated in self-defence during the exchange of fire.
During the encounter, constable Anurag Rawat sustained a bullet injury. He was rushed for treatment and is currently under medical care. Asad was critically injured in the retaliatory firing and was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police said efforts are underway to arrest the second accused who escaped taking advantage of darkness.
The encounter comes days after the murder of Surya Pratap Chauhan, a resident of Navneet Vihar, who was allegedly stabbed multiple times near Sharma Dairy in Khoda on Thursday afternoon. The teenager later succumbed to injuries during treatment at a Noida hospital.
Police had earlier arrested three accused in the case, including Asad’s father Nawab and two associates. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, the teenager was allegedly called near the accused’s house where a group of people had gathered. The family has alleged that the attack was pre-planned and not the result of a sudden altercation.
The case had sparked massive outrage in the area, with residents demanding strict action against the accused.
