New Delhi: The founder of the newly formed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Abhijeet Dipke, has triggered a political controversy after making remarks about veteran social activist Anna Hazare. His comments, suggesting that senior public figures should step away from politics and activism after a certain age, have drawn criticism from political observers and social media users.

Remarks During Media Interaction

The controversy began during a media interaction in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where Dipke was asked whether he would seek Anna Hazare's support for the party's future movements. Responding to the question, Dipke said that people who are in their 60s or 70s should retire from politics and activism and spend their time in an ashram instead.

He also argued that decisions concerning the future of students and young people should be taken by the younger generation rather than senior leaders. The remarks quickly gained attention and sparked debate online.

Social Media Questions Consistency Of Stand

Following the statement, several social media users criticised Dipke's comments and questioned the consistency of his position on senior activists. Many pointed out that Ladakh-based environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has led several public campaigns in recent years, is also close to the age bracket mentioned by Dipke.

Users questioned why Wangchuk's participation in public movements appeared acceptable while similar involvement by Anna Hazare was being criticised. The comparison became a major point of discussion across social media platforms.

Anna Hazare's Public Legacy

Anna Hazare is widely known for his anti-corruption movement, which drew nationwide participation and placed governance reforms at the centre of public debate. His campaigns, particularly those centred around transparency and accountability, have played a significant role in India's civil society discourse over the years.

Political Debate Intensifies

Dipke's remarks have added a fresh dimension to the debate over the role of experienced leaders in public life. While some support greater participation of younger leaders in politics, others argue that experience and public service continue to hold value irrespective of age.

The controversy has also drawn attention to the challenges faced by emerging political outfits, with critics and supporters alike closely watching how the newly formed party responds to the backlash surrounding its founder's comments.
