Maharajganj: Former Kanpur MLA Irfan Solanki is set to be released from Maharajganj Jail today after spending nearly 33 months behind bars. Solanki was granted bail in cases under the Gangster Act by the High Court, clearing the last legal hurdle for his release.

Solanki, a former MLA from the Sisamau assembly seat in Kanpur, had been imprisoned since December 2022, when he was transferred from Kanpur to Maharajganj Jail. He faced multiple serious charges, including arson, illegal plot grabbing, extortion, and preparation of forged documents. While he had already secured bail in most cases, he remained in jail due to the Gangster Act cases.

With the High Court now granting him bail under the Gangster Act, all legal barriers to his release have been removed. His supporters are reportedly excited and celebrating the news.

During Solanki’s imprisonment, his wife took charge of the family’s political legacy and currently serves as the MLA from Sisamau. His release is expected to reshape the political dynamics in Kanpur, as both his party and rivals are likely to respond with intensified political activity.
