Lucknow: Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Lucknow authorities have launched a large-scale crackdown on illegally residing Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants. The operation involves police, district administration, and the municipal corporation, with Mayor Sushma Kharkwal leading efforts to identify and verify undocumented residents. Raids and verification drives have already been conducted in areas including Hazratganj and Krishnanagar, while municipal bodies across the state have been instructed to compile lists of illegal migrants in their jurisdictions.
As part of the campaign, temporary and permanent detention centers will be established in every administrative division to house individuals identified as residing illegally pending further action. Officials emphasized that the operation is aimed at maintaining law and order, safeguarding national security, and ensuring social harmony, while addressing local residents’ complaints regarding overcrowding, disorderly settlements, and illegal occupancy. The state government has made it clear that individuals without valid legal documents will not be allowed to stay in Uttar Pradesh.
