Bengaluru: A viral social media video showing a luxury Lamborghini allegedly linked to Ricky Rai, son of late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, has prompted Bengaluru police to launch an investigation into possible traffic and public safety violations.

The video, uploaded on Instagram in May, appears to show the high-performance sports car being driven at speed on the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Road while producing loud exhaust sounds and visible flames from its rear exhaust system. The footage quickly gained attention online, leading authorities to examine whether traffic laws were violated.

Police Issue Notice

According to traffic police officials, the Devanahalli Traffic Police have served a notice to Ricky Rai seeking an explanation regarding the incident. The notice cites provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to dangerous driving, vehicle modifications and conduct that may endanger public safety.

Police stated that the vehicle was allegedly driven in a reckless manner, creating excessive noise and posing a potential risk to other road users.

Concerns Over Public Safety

Authorities noted that the manner in which the Lamborghini was driven could have caused fear and discomfort among commuters using the airport road. Officials also raised concerns about the flames seen coming from the exhaust system, which attracted significant attention on social media.

The notice directs Ricky Rai to appear before the authorities within three days along with the vehicle and relevant documents. He has also been asked to submit a written explanation regarding the incident.

Ricky Rai's Response

A senior police officer said Ricky Rai informed officials over the phone that the video was recorded near the Sadahalli toll plaza. He reportedly claimed that the flames visible in the video are a feature that occurs when the vehicle accelerates suddenly at low speeds.

Police, however, have asked him to provide his explanation formally in writing before any conclusion is reached.

Second Controversy Involving the Same Car

The latest investigation comes just months after the same Lamborghini was linked to another high-profile case. In March, the vehicle was allegedly involved in dangerous drifting stunts near Bengaluru's MG Road.

Although Ricky Rai initially denied involvement, police later relied on CCTV footage and registered a case after identifying him as the driver.

Officials said further action in the current case will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the explanation submitted by the vehicle owner.
