New Delhi: Actor and social media personality Anjali Arora’s upcoming role as Mata Sita in Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha- Shri Ram Ki has sparked a debate on social media. After the release of the film’s teaser, several users questioned the casting choice, while some others praised her appearance and expressed excitement about the project.
Anjali Arora shared the teaser of the film on social media, after which reactions started pouring in from viewers who had different opinions about her portrayal of the revered character.
Several Reddit users criticised the decision to cast Anjali Arora as Sita, saying that characters from religious epics require careful portrayal and sensitivity.
Some users compared the controversy with the backlash faced by Adipurush, which was criticised after its release for its dialogues and creative interpretation of characters from the Ramayana.
One user commented that the casting felt disrespectful towards people’s beliefs, while another called it a “mockery” of the epic. However, some fans defended Anjali and supported the makers’ decision.
Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha – Shri Ram Ki is directed by Abhishek Singh and produced under the banner of Mahobiya Film Production. The film features Dev Sharma in the lead role, with Anjali Arora, Sheel Verma, Rajniesh Duggal and Nirbhay Wadhwa in important roles.
The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25.
The debate around the film comes after the earlier controversy surrounding Om Raut’s Adipurush, which was also based on the Ramayana. The film faced criticism over dialogues, character presentation and creative changes.
With multiple Ramayana-based projects being announced, including Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey and Yash, audience expectations around the portrayal of the epic remain high.
Anjali Arora became widely known after her dance video on the viral song “Kacha Badam” gained popularity. She later appeared in Kangana Ranaut’s reality show Lock Upp Season 1, where she gained further recognition.
She has since featured in music videos and entertainment projects, building a strong social media following.
