Lakhimpur Kheri: A shocking shooting inside a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri has left students, teachers and parents in fear after a 26-year-old teacher was allegedly shot dead during school hours. The accused entered the campus with a firearm, carried out the attack and later died after shooting himself, police said.
The incident at Children’s Academy School in the Shahpura Kothi area has sparked serious questions over security arrangements in educational institutions and how an outsider managed to enter a school premises with a weapon while classes were underway.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the murder, examining the relationship between the victim and accused, the possible motive behind the attack and security lapses that allowed the incident to take place.
The victim was identified as Nishat Fatima, 26, a resident of Hidayat Nagar in Lakhimpur Kheri. She had been working as a teacher at the private school for nearly a year. The accused was identified as Saud Ansari, 28, from Naurangabad. Police said he was known to the victim and ran a furniture business.
According to the initial police investigation, Ansari reached the school around 11:30 am and entered the campus to meet Fatima. The two reportedly went towards an upper floor corridor, where an argument allegedly took place.
Police said the accused then pulled out a country-made pistol and fired multiple rounds at close range before turning the weapon on himself. Both the teacher and the accused died on the spot.
The sound of gunfire triggered panic inside the school campus. Students and teachers rushed for safety as confusion spread across the premises. Around 350 students were reportedly present at the school when the incident took place. School authorities immediately informed the police and moved students away from the area where the shooting occurred.
Police teams reached the spot, sealed the corridor and launched a forensic examination. Investigators recovered a country-made pistol, four empty cartridges and one live cartridge from the crime scene. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination as police began collecting evidence.
