R Madhavan on Parenting Son Vedaant
New Delhi: Actor R Madhavan, known for films such as Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, 3 Idiots, and Dhurandhar, has spoken about his dual journey as a successful actor and a dedicated father to his son Vedaant Madhavan, a competitive freestyle swimmer. The actor reportedly shifted base to the UAE to support his son’s sporting ambitions and training environment.
In a recent conversation on the 100 Year Life Project with Radhika Gupta, Madhavan reflected on his parenting approach. He shared that despite their privileged lifestyle, he has consciously worked to ensure his son remains grounded and respectful toward everyone around him.
Madhavan explained that he emphasized how Vedaant should interact with household staff and workers with dignity. He said he encouraged his son to address them respectfully and acknowledge their contribution without hierarchy or casual labels.
He added that simple gestures mattered most, noting that feedback from a watchman calling Vedaant a polite child and someone who always greeted others with respect reassured him that his parenting efforts were on the right track.
Separately, research published in Health Psychology has highlighted the importance of a father’s early involvement in a child’s development. The study observed parent-child interactions from infancy through early childhood and found that less attentive paternal engagement could affect co-parenting dynamics.
According to findings reportes children of less engaged fathers showed higher chances of metabolic and inflammatory health markers later in childhood, including issues like elevated blood sugar levels. Researchers suggested that early parental interaction patterns may influence long-term physical health outcomes.
The study reinforces the idea that parenting responsibilities extend beyond mothers alone, highlighting the growing recognition of fathers’ active role in emotional, social, and physical development of children.
