Bihar Govt Launches New Policy For Social Media Influencers (Img: X)
New Delhi: The Bihar government has introduced a new initiative aimed at using social media influencers to promote its welfare schemes and development programmes. Under the policy, eligible content creators can receive financial incentives based on the views generated by their videos.
The decision was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday.
According to the amended Bihar Social Media and Other Online Media Rules, 2026, influencers creating videos about government schemes will be rewarded according to their reach.
A creator whose video receives one lakh views within 30 days will get ₹10,000. The maximum payment for a single video has been capped at ₹1 lakh.
The state Information and Public Relations Department is expected to issue a detailed notification explaining the eligibility criteria and payment process.
The Bihar government said the move is aimed at reaching a wider audience through digital platforms, especially young social media users.
Officials believe influencers can explain government programmes in a simpler and more engaging manner compared to traditional communication methods.
Currently, government schemes are promoted through newspapers, television, radio and official websites. The new policy will add social media platforms as another major outreach channel.
With millions of people consuming short videos daily, governments across India have increasingly focused on digital platforms for public communication.
The Bihar government believes social media creators can help bridge the gap between official announcements and public understanding by presenting schemes in easy-to-understand formats.
