New Year 2026 Brings Price Hike for Petrol, Diesel, EVs
New Delhi: Car buyers across India have been hit with a shock at the start of the new year 2026. From January 1, 2026, several major automobile companies in India have increased the prices of their vehicles. This list includes luxury brands, budget car manufacturers, and electric vehicle makers. The companies say that this decision was necessitated by rising costs, inflation in raw materials, and the weakening of the rupee.
Although customers benefited from GST relief on some models at the beginning of the year, the effect of that relief has been largely negated by the new price increases. The auto sector believes that price stability may be difficult to maintain in the coming months as well.
Mercedes-Benz has increased the prices of its entire car range by approximately 2 percent. According to the company, the increase in costs is due to rising raw material prices, logistics expenses, and the weakening of the rupee against the euro.
BMW has also increased the prices of its cars from January 2026. Prices were previously increased in September 2025. The new increase has affected popular cars like the 3 Series.
Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has increased the prices of its new electric SUV, the Sealion 7. However, those who booked before December 31, 2025, received the benefit of the old price.
MG Motor has increased the prices of its cars across all three segments—petrol, diesel, and electric—by approximately 2 percent. Affordable electric cars like the MG Windsor EV and Comet EV have also become more expensive.
Nissan has increased the prices of its cars by up to 3 percent from January 2026. Budget SUVs like the Magnite will now cost more.
Honda has also announced price revisions citing rising costs, although the company has not yet shared the exact figures.
Renault has increased the prices of popular budget cars like the Kwid, Triber, and Kiger, directly impacting average customers.
Auto experts say that customers planning to buy a new car should keep an eye on offers and discounts. Prices may increase further in the coming months due to rising costs.
