New Delhi: Electric vehicles will no longer have to pay toll tax on Atal Setu in Mumbai. The state government gave information about this on Friday. Atal Setu, formerly known as Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL), is the longest sea bridge in the country.

What Has Changed In Old Rule?

This decision has been taken under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Tax Act, 1958. Earlier, a notification was issued on 31 January 2024, in which there was a rule to collect toll tax from all types of vehicles on Atal Setu. But now by changing it, electric vehicles have been exempted from toll tax.

Decision Took In May, Now Implemented

In fact, in May this year itself, the state Home Department had decided to exempt electric cars and buses from toll tax. After the order issued on Thursday, this rule has also been implemented at Shivaji Nagar and Gavan toll plazas.

Inaugurated In January 2024

Atal Setu was inaugurated in January 2024. This bridge connects Sewri in the southern area of ​​​​Mumbai to Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai. This 21.8 km long sea bridge has now become an important route for passengers and cargo vehicles.

Atal Setu is India's longest sea bridge, formerly known as Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (MTHL). This bridge connects Sewri, the southern part of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, to Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai. Its total length is about 21.8 km, out of which about 16.5 km is built over the sea. This bridge is considered very important in terms of traffic as it has reduced the travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai considerably.
