New Delhi: Mitsubishi has given the new Pajero a completely modern look while retaining its tough SUV character. The latest model follows the design language seen on Mitsubishi’s newer SUVs, featuring a bold front grille, muscular wheel arches, a flat roofline and a high ground clearance stance.
Built on a ladder-frame platform derived from the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck, the SUV measures 4,920 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width and 1,910 mm in height. It gets a 2,870 mm wheelbase and rides on 20-inch wheels in higher variants.
Unlike previous Pajero models, the new version comes with a conventional tailgate design, while the spare wheel has been moved underneath the vehicle.
Inside, the new Pajero gets a three-row, seven-seat cabin designed for both comfort and practicality. The second-row seats can slide up to 150 mm and fold forward to improve third-row access and luggage flexibility.
Higher variants come equipped with leather upholstery, soft-touch dashboard materials, tri-zone climate control, heated second-row seats, rear sunshades and a cooled storage compartment.
The SUV also features large touchscreen displays, with top variants offering dual 14.3-inch screens. A Yamaha 12-speaker audio system, multiple USB charging ports and physical controls for important functions add to the premium experience.
The 2026 Mitsubishi Pajero is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 204 hp of power and 480 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The SUV comes equipped with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which combines four-wheel drive, traction control, stability control and active yaw management.
With 230 mm of ground clearance, a 30.4-degree approach angle and long-travel suspension, the Pajero has been designed to handle challenging off-road conditions.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero will initially launch in Thailand before reaching markets like Japan and Australia by 2027. While the SUV would compete directly with the Toyota Fortuner if introduced in India, Mitsubishi has not confirmed plans for an Indian launch yet.
The previous-generation Pajero had a strong presence in India and was known for its rugged reliability. The return of the new model has once again created excitement among SUV enthusiasts.
