German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has issued an advisory in India stating all its petrol BS VI vehicles are fully compatible with E20 petrol. The advisory came shortly after the popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi shared in one of his videos that mileage of his Mercedes SUV has dropped sharply due to ethanol-blended petrol.

The automobile manufacturer shared the statement on social media that “All Mercedes-Benz petrol BS VI vehicles are materially compatible with E20 fuel and certified accordingly by relevant authorities.”

Sourav Joshi's Claim on E20 Petrol

One of the most popular Indian daily vloggers shared a video on his YouTube channel where he claimed that the average of his Mercedes-Benz SUV has dropped to 17 to 5 l/km in just two days. He said, “said his vehicle's efficiency has plummeted to an unprecedented low within a span of just 48 hours.”

Joshi further added that “Yesterday I showed you our car's mileage had gone from 17 straight down to 9,” Joshi told his audience. “And do you know what it has become today? Today it has reached five... look at this, it's showing a mileage of five.”

He blamed the fuel available at the local petrol pump behind the sudden drop in mileage.

Joshi said that a full tank of petrol earlier shows a driving range of around 800 kilometers, and now it portrays an estimated range of only 480km upon refueling. He also expressed his concern over the sharp drop in mileage and even potential mechanical damage to the petrol engine of the luxury SUV.

He said, “I don't know when this car will break down... Nowadays I'm so scared of refilling petrol,”

Joshi also stated that as he owns electric G-Wagon which keeps him away from the damage caused by E20
