Yamaha R2 Finally Launched (Yamaha Online)
New Delhi: Yamaha has launched its much-awaited fully faired sports motorcycle, the Yamaha R2, in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹2.30 lakh. Positioned in the 200cc supersport segment, the new bike will be sold alongside the popular Yamaha R15 and will compete directly with the KTM RC 200.
The Yamaha R2 is available in three variants. The base model is priced at ₹2.30 lakh, while the mid-spec variant with a bi-directional quickshifter costs ₹2.39 lakh. The top-end R2M variant is priced at ₹2.53 lakh and comes with premium features including adjustable suspension, adjustable levers and a Smart Key system.
The motorcycle will be available in five colour options, with deliveries expected to begin from mid-September 2026 through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships.
Unlike some existing Yamaha models, the R2 gets an all-new 204cc liquid-cooled, DOHC single-cylinder engine developed specifically for this motorcycle. The engine produces 26.13 hp of power and 19.1 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful bikes in its segment.
The bike weighs around 149 kg, and Yamaha claims its diamond frame draws inspiration from the company’s supersport engineering experience, including the YZF-R6.
The top-spec R2M variant additionally offers adjustable front forks, rear suspension settings and Smart Key technology.
The launch marks Yamaha’s entry into the 200cc fully faired performance motorcycle segment, which has largely been dominated by the KTM RC 200. With its aggressive styling, lightweight chassis and advanced features, Yamaha aims to attract riders looking for a premium sports bike experience below the 250cc category.
With the R2, Yamaha is expanding its performance motorcycle lineup in India and offering buyers a new alternative in the entry-level supersport segment.
