Patna: A prominent businessman and BJP leader Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his residence late Friday night here in Patna, when he was returning home from Patna Club in his car, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Khemka was an renowned industrialist, a doctor and a politician. His son Gunjan Khemka too was shot dead in 2018.
As soon as Khemka got down at the gate of his apartment near Hotel Panash, the criminals who were lying in wait fired bullets at him. This incident, which took place around 11:30 pm, created a sensation in the entire city. Khemka was immediately taken to a private hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Gopal Khemka was a reputed businessman of Patna and was once the owner of the city's leading Magadh Hospital. He had ideological proximity to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
This murder has brought back memories of the murder of his son Gunjan Khemka six years ago, who was shot by criminals in the Industrial Police Station area of Vaishali on 20 December 2018. Even after that incident, the Khemka family had suffered a huge shock and now the murder of Gopal Khemka has completely shattered the family.
After this tragic incident, the family has raised serious questions on the working style of the police. Gopal's younger brother Santosh Khemka said that despite informing about the incident, the police of Gandhi Maidan police station reached the spot after one and a half hours. City SP (Central) also came to the spot after two hours.

The family alleged that the police acted negligently by surrounding the bullet shells lying on the spot with bricks and bamboo. The family also created a ruckus in the hospital, in which the inaction of Bihar Police was held responsible.
Seeing the seriousness of the incident, Purnia's independent MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav reached the spot first.
Questioning the working of the police, he said, "How long will this family continue to be a victim of criminals? Six years ago, Gopal Khemka's son was murdered and now he too has been murdered. This is a posh area, just 300 meters away from the police station, yet criminals commit murders and escape without any fear. What is the state of law and order in Bihar?"
Family members and local industrialists launched a scathing attack on the Bihar government. They said that the morale of the criminals has increased so much that they are entering the house and committing murders. The family said, "Even after informing the police, no action was taken for two hours. No one is safe in Bihar."
City SP (Central) Diksha said that Gopal Khemka was shot near the head, due to which he died instantly. Police is searching the CCTV footage of the surrounding area and investigating every aspect. He claimed that the criminals will not be able to escape.
