Ahead of the announcement, the ECI conducted a detailed two-day review of Bihar’s electoral readiness. Officials assessed security arrangements, deployment of personnel, logistics, and enforcement mechanisms to ensure free and fair elections. The commission has stressed the importance of conducting elections without inducements or irregularities.
Many political parties have requested the ECI to schedule elections after the Chhath festival, celebrated at the end of October. This timing would allow residents working outside Bihar to return home, potentially boosting voter turnout.
ECI has implemented several key reforms
In preparation for the elections, the ECI has implemented several key reforms. The voter list underwent a Special Intensive Revision (SIR), removing approximately 68.5 lakh duplicate or outdated entries and adding 21.5 lakh new voters.
Other changes include color photographs on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), revised postal ballot procedures, and the acceptance of Aadhaar cards as valid voter identification. These measures aim to ensure transparency and make voting more accessible for eligible citizens.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar said that the Bihar Assembly polls will be completed before 22 November. Gyanesh Kumar was addressing a press conference in Patna, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
