Samrat Choudhary takes oath as Bihar's 24th CM
Patna: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Choudhary took oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister on Wednesday, succeeding veteran leader Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United).
He was elected as the legislature party leader soon after Nitish Kumar, who became a Rajya Sabha MP last week, submitted his resignation to Governor Hasnain.
A key organisational leader within the BJP, Choudhary has been an influential figure in the NDA government and previously handled the Home portfolio. He has often represented the party alongside Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at major political and official engagements.
Born into a political family, he is the son of veteran leader Shakuni Choudhary. His political career has spanned multiple parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United), before he joined the BJP in 2017-a move that significantly accelerated his rise within the organisation.
Since then, his trajectory in the party has been swift. He became Bihar BJP president in 2023 and later served as Deputy Chief Minister in the NDA government formed after the 2025 Assembly elections, representing the Tarapur constituency.
