Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has finally got a full-time Director General of Police (DGP) after a gap of four years. Senior IPS officer Rajeev Krishna has been appointed as the new DGP of Uttar Pradesh. He had been serving as the acting DGP till now.

The appointment ends a long wait for a permanent police chief in the state and is being seen as a major administrative decision by the Yogi Adityanath government.

Rajeev Krishna’s appointment had largely been considered a formality after his name featured prominently in the panel sent by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Following detailed discussions at the government level, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved his name for the top police post.

A senior IPS officer with extensive experience in policing and administration, Rajeev Krishna has held several key positions in the Uttar Pradesh Police over the years. Officials believe his appointment is expected to bring stability and continuity to the state police leadership.

Who is IPS Rajeev Krishna?

IPS officer Rajeev Krishna, a native of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) in Uttar Pradesh, was born on June 26, 1969. His father’s name is HK Mittal. He completed his higher education with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

After completing his academic studies, he was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS). Rajeev Krishna belongs to the 1991 batch of the IPS and was inducted into service on September 15, 1991. He was confirmed in service on October 21, 1993, and received the Senior Scale on October 10, 1995. Later, he was promoted to the Selection Grade on August 9, 2005.
