Bureaucracy: Odisha government reshuffles IAS officers, new appointments announced

The Odisha government has carried out a minor reshuffle of IAS officers, appointing new collectors and department heads. Several officials have been given fresh responsibilities across key administrative and development departments.

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has announced a reshuffle of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, assigning new roles to several officials across different departments. The changes are aimed at strengthening administrative functioning in key sectors.

New Collector Appointed for Malkangiri

As part of the reshuffle, Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke, a 2021-batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the new collector of Malkangiri. Rajeshirke was previously serving as commissioner of Berhampur Municipal Corporation and also held additional charge as vice-chairman of the Berhampur Development Authority.

The current collector of Malkangiri, Somesh Kumar Upadhyay, has been transferred and posted as director of textiles and handlooms in Odisha.

Changes in Cooperative and Fisheries Departments

In another appointment, Manish Agarwal, who was serving as additional special relief commissioner with additional charge as additional secretary in the planning and convergence department, has been named registrar of cooperative societies in the state.

Meanwhile, Siddhartha Das, who earlier held the position of registrar of cooperative societies, has been appointed director of fisheries in Cuttack.

New Roles in Industry and Education

The state government has also appointed Smruti Ranjan Pradhan as managing director of the Odisha Small Industries Corporation.

Pradhan will also hold additional charge as chief executive officer of Startup Odisha. With this appointment, the additional charge earlier held by Rashmita Panda as CEO of Startup Odisha has been withdrawn.

Appointment in Education Department

Further changes include the appointment of Madhusmita Sahoo as director of Teachers’ Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training.

She will continue to hold additional charge as additional secretary in the school and mass education department while also serving as additional secretary in the revenue and disaster management department. Officials said the reshuffle is intended to streamline governance and improve administrative efficiency across departments.
