Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has reinstated senior IAS officer Abhishek Prakash, who was previously suspended over corruption allegations. According to government sources, the reinstatement is expected to take effect after March 14.

While officials have confirmed the development through internal sources, no formal statement has yet been issued by the state’s appointment department. The officer, a 2006-batch IAS, had earlier served as the Chief Executive Officer of Invest UP, the state’s investment promotion agency.

High Court Order Clears the Way

The reinstatement follows a decision by the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench, which in February 2026 reportedly quashed the chargesheet filed against the officer due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Following the court’s ruling, the possibility of restoring the officer to service and assigning him a new administrative role gained momentum. Officials indicate that he could soon be posted to an important administrative position, potentially at the level of principal secretary or an equivalent role.

Background of the Corruption Allegations

The case dates back to March 2025, when the Uttar Pradesh government suspended Prakash over allegations linked to a solar energy project.

He was accused of seeking a five per cent commission from an industrialist in exchange for project approval through an intermediary. The allegations surfaced during an investigation that involved multiple administrative officials.

Following the arrest of a clerk associated with the case, an FIR was reportedly registered at Gomti Nagar police station against Prakash and another accused.

Wider Probe Involving Several Officials

Investigations into the matter also examined the role of several officials involved in land acquisition related to the project. These included administrative officers such as additional district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates and other revenue officials. Authorities had earlier taken action against several officials implicated in the probe.

Report to Centre Expected

Government sources said that a report regarding the case is expected to be sent to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions before completion of one year of the suspension period.

With the legal hurdles now cleared, the reinstatement of Prakash is likely to formally come into effect soon.
