Kolkata: Following the formation of the new government in Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday initiated the most significant action to date regarding the high-profile RG Kar case.

Addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, Nabanna, in the afternoon, the Chief Minister announced the suspension of three senior IPS officers of the state: Vineet Goyal (the then Commissioner of Kolkata Police), Indira Mukherjee, and Abhishek Gupta. Suvendu has also directed that departmental proceedings be initiated against all three IPS officers.

Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari stated that the government would launch a departmental inquiry against Kolkata's former CP, Vineet Goyal, and two other officers in connection with the RG Kar case.

In the recent elections, the victim's mother contested the polls and secured a victory, turning this issue into a major political talking point. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has already expressed his intention to constitute a commission to investigate this incident; a formal announcement regarding this is now awaited.

The new Chief Minister has categorically stated that strict action will be taken in matters concerning women's safety. Notably, the mother of the RG Kar victim also won the Assembly election this time on a BJP ticket.
