New Delhi: The government has successfully gasified approximately 5.96 lakh PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections, with infrastructure now in place for an additional 2.68 lakh, bringing the total to 8.64 lakh. Additionally, around 6.66 lakh customers have signed up for new connections, according to the Petroleum Ministry's update on Saturday.

As of May 1, more than 43,350 consumers have switched from LPG connections to PNG. Since April 2026, over 22.78 lakh 5-Kg FTL (Flat Top Load) cylinders have been sold, and 9,980 awareness camps for these cylinders have been conducted, with more than 1.71 lakh cylinders sold during these events.

In terms of commercial LPG, 2.05 lakh MT (equivalent to 108.34 lakh 19-Kg cylinders) have been sold since April. Additionally, over 10,698 MT of Auto LPG has been distributed by PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in the same period.

The government has also increased gas allocations for fertilizer plants to nearly 98% of their six-month average consumption. All refineries are operating at full capacity, maintaining adequate stocks of petrol and diesel.

To ensure a steady supply of petrochemical products, an inter-ministerial Joint Working Group (JWG) has been formed. Since April 9, more than 10,000 MT of propylene and 1,200 MT of Butyl Acrylate have been sold from refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, Vizag, Chennai, Mathura, and Gujarat to industries in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and paints.

On fuel availability, the government assured that all retail outlets across the country are operating normally. Despite some panic buying caused by rumors, petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient, and there is no price hike at PSU OMC retail outlets.
