
SBI closed for 6 days
New Delhi: State Bank of India (SBI) may be continuously closed from 23 to 28 May 2026. SBI branches can remain closed for up to six days because of the weekend, proposed two-day strike and the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) two-day holiday for Eid-ud-Adha (Bakri Eid). In Jammu and Kashmir, banks will be closed for two days on Bakrid (May 27 and 28), as per the RBI holiday calendar
This is expected to affect millions of bank customers across the country, including those in the national capital Delhi.
Bank Holidays on May 23–24
SBI branches across the country will remain closed on May 23 (the fourth Saturday of the month) and May 24 (Sunday). According to banking regulations, public sector banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
Employees Strike on May 25 and 26
Following the holidays, a two-day strike by SBI employees is proposed for May 25 and 26. The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) has called for this strike to press for various demands regarding the employees.
If the strike goes ahead, normal operations at bank branches could be severely disrupted. The Federation states that this step is being taken to safeguard employees' rights, demand better working conditions, and advocate for improved banking services. The organization has raised its voice regarding several issues related to recruitment, staff shortages, medical facilities, transfer policies, and salaries. Banks Closed on May 27 and 28 for Bakrid
Additionally, due to Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha), banks will remain closed in several states on May 27 and 28. According to the list of holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), holidays will be observed in different states based on the specific dates of the festival in those regions. In Jammu and Kashmir, banks are likely to remain closed on both May 27 and 28.

However, SBI online banking services, UPI transactions and ATM services will continue to work normally.
