New Delhi: Indian benchmark stock indices opened on a cautious note on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, amid mixed global market signals, rising crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The BSE Sensex declined 32.67 points to open at 78,509.77, while the Nifty 50 slipped 8.7 points to start trading at 24,575.10. Investors remained cautious after a volatile session in the previous trading day. The Sensex had closed at 78,542.44, while the Nifty 50 ended the previous session at 24,583.80.

Broader Market Shows Mixed Trend

The broader market witnessed a mixed trend during early trading hours. The BSE Midcap Select Index declined 56.46 points, while the BSE Smallcap Select Index gained 21.09 points or 0.23%, trading in positive territory.

Market breadth remained positive on the NSE, with around 1,400 stocks advancing, while 1,158 stocks declined. Around 128 stocks remained unchanged.

Top Gainers and Losers on Sensex Pack

Among Sensex-listed companies, Adani Ports, BEL, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and Titan were among the early gainers.

Adani Ports led the gainers, rising around 0.65% in early trade.

On the other hand, IndiGo, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India (SBI), UltraTech Cement and Axis Bank remained under pressure.

IndiGo emerged as the biggest loser in early trading, declining more than 1.29%.

Why Is the Market Under Pressure?

Analysts believe rising crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty are limiting market gains.

Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Broking, said the near-term outlook remains cautiously positive with a range-bound trend. He added that domestic technical indicators remain supportive despite mixed global cues and weaker Gift Nifty signals.

According to market experts, elevated crude oil prices and uncertainty around global developments could keep investors cautious. Upcoming US inflation data may also influence global risk sentiment.

Gift Nifty Signals Flat Opening

Gift Nifty, considered an early indicator for the Nifty 50, pointed towards a flat-to-negative opening. Gift Nifty opened 13 points lower at 24,618.50, compared with its previous close of 24,631.50.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their buying trend for the second consecutive session and purchased Indian equities worth 1,974.76 crore rupees on August 10, 2026. However, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) turned sellers and sold equities worth 1,290.29 crore rupees.
